How to Turn Your Pet Into A Leprechaun

Last week I saw the cutest Leprechaun dog costume online. The costume were about $20 with shipping but, I couldn’t find one at any of the local pet stores… so I decided to make one and it only cost $2!

To make the outfit part all you need is a ladies blazer. I picked this one up at Goodwill for $.99. (On Wednesday and Sunday, all clothing in the selected tag color is $.99.) I bought a size 14 so it would fit around her. If you have a small dog, I would think children’s clothes would work well. All you do is cut the sleeves off, place there legs through the arm holes and button normally. I also had to pin it a little on the side.

To make the beard, start with 4 strips of fabric.

Cut slits up through each piece and space about 1/4 inch a part. Once you have all 4 pieces cut, overlap the pieces starting with the bottom and so on. Sew the ends together.

Overlap layers and sew ends together at the top

Once it is all together, hand stitch the top piece to a collar. I also gathered all of the ends and put a few stitches to give it a rounder look.

The last thing you need is the little hat. They have packs of 5 of these at the Dollar Tree.

And there you have it! I am sure your pet will not love it at first but with a few extra treats they will wear it with a smile!

We live next door to an assisted living home and on Friday they are having a St.Patrick’s day dress up party.  I am going to take Lucy by to visit 🙂 If you have any questions about how to make the costume, let me know.

Luck to you,

Sara Beth
